History and Expressions

• C99 is used in CS 136
• C uses the traditional infix algebraic notation
• Integer division rounds towards 0

There are not really that many to learn for this section, it’s mainly the same with other imperative languages!

Identifiers and Functions

Every function, variable and structure requires an identifier

• It can only contain letters, underscores and numbers
• Use underscore_style for identifiers with compound words

C uses a static type system

• All types must be known before the program is run and the type of an identifier cannot change (sometimes it works if you don’t specify but it is very bad style)

Adding leading zeros

• It evaluates based with base 8 numbers!

Adding void in parameters

• Always use void to enforce that there are no parameters!
